Would Alberto Gonzales look good in coveralls?
Alberto Gonzales has established a legal defense fund. He has anticipated the need for a whole bunch of money to pay a whole bunch of lawyers because he is facing a whole bunch of criminal charges. I'm shakin' with glee. I love to see the bad guys squirm. I love it even more when they go down. I doubt if ole Al is goin' down, but he might. Seems the precedent we have set is to allow our Washington staff exemption from actually being punished for doing bad stuff. The example that first comes to mind is the Presidential pardon of Richard "the dick" Nixon. No need to make a list of wrongdoings vs. punishments...we just let them all go. It's is supposed to be against the law to lie to Congress...Clinton did it. Nothing happened.
But back to Alberto. "Supporters of former attorney general Alberto Gonzales have created a trust fund to help pay for his legal expenses, which are mounting in the face of an ongoing Justice Department investigation into whether Gonzales committed perjury or improperly tampered with a congressional witness." (How would one properly tamper with a congressional witness???) Some think the best scenario for Gonzales is to be charged and tried and convicted before Bush leaves office so Bush can pull a Scooter Libby for him (pardon). On the flip side, he could be still called to testify in other criminal proceedings. How would his pardon affect his testimony? Could he still "take the fifth"? Could a pardon be broad enough to cover all possible (future) charges against him?
We are about to be witness to the opening of the proverbial can of worms as the scope of Gonzales' actions and the connection to directions and influence by president Bush come to light. For me, the investigations into what Gonzales did while Attorney General serves the more important purpose of exposing the wrong doings of Bush and his gang, the Bushies. Sure, I want to see Gonzales beat up, but the real treat will be the uncovering of even more smelly Bushshit, maybe even some criminal Bushshit...stuff that could get Bush charged with criminal acts. Think you've seen Bush stutter and stammer when asked a question by a reporter! I'd love to see him in the hot seat in front of congress. Who, I ask, wouldn't?
