Chapter 3...Addy takes her puppies swimming

Woody and I had decided to go on a little vacation...I can't remember where we went, but our good friend Lorre had agreed to stay in our house and watch our dogs for us. We have a neighborhood pond. It's a beautiful little pond, kinda small but bigger than a cow pond and it's set up with a few picnic tables and grills and has a small dock. It's very private and although all  in our hood have rights to the pond, it is seldom used. Lorre likes to go down to the pond to read and relax. Sometimes she bakes in the sun. She had greased herself well and was sunning on the dock when a movement across the pond caught her eye. One of the neighborhood houses property backs up to the pond and they have a small dock also. Well, beside the dock was Addy and her puppies.  Some of the puppies were in the water and some were on the bank with Addy. Addy had taken her kids swimming! Lorre was beside herself with amusement. She watched as the dogs splashed and played but then something happened that blew her mind.

What happened next is hard to believe, but Lorre had her little Nikon point and shoot and she got a picture.  A deer appeared from out of the woods and walked up to Addy and her kids and started playing with them! The deer joined in the fun. Lorre said they played what appeared to be a game of tag. First one of the dogs would run towards the deer as if to attack...them the deer would do the same. This went on for a few minutes. The deer must have caught a wiff of Lorre because she suddenly looked across the pond, directly at Lorre, then walked back into the woods. The deer didn't seem to be alarmed, but just figured it was best to leave.

In my estimation, Addy and this deer already knew one another. About two months after the swimming incident, Addy was in my yard, hanging with me while I cleaned out our goldfish pond. I happened to look up and a deer, maybe it was the same one, was walking up the yard towards Addy. Addy saw the deer and ran, playfully bouncing, towards the deer and met her half way up the yard. I watched in amazement as the two of them frolicked for a couple of minutes. The deer didn't seem too bothered by my presence, but turned and left in no great hurry. It was as if the deer just wanted to say hi to Addy.

I have often wondered where Addy travels and with whom she interacts. It would be great to have a small doggie cam I could mount on her collar and record her adventures.  I have more Addy stories to tell and I will post them in serial fashion.  I know , I know...what about the picture of Addy and the deer?  The picture was taken at great distance with a four mega pixel camera. We tried to make a decent enlargement, the image looks like a 1960's spy satellite image. Maybe if I had military quality digital enhancement software....

Boy, you had me worried. I thought this was not going to have a happy ending. You kept me dangling.
