Huckabee, God and Our Constitution

OK...we are having one of the most interesting political events in recent history.  But, religion, race and gender seem to have become the only issues in the presidential primaries. Before I get going here, let me emphasize the fact that I would rather have Mickey Mouse as president,  if that mouse didn't take god to office with him, than ANY person , white or black, male or female, gay or straight, tall or short, skinny or fat ...etc. and so on and so forth... who wants to further infuse Christianity with our government. So, race and gender...the "time" for a black man..the right  "climate" to elect a female...we have become focused upon race and gender when we should be considering the individual and the probability that he or she can effectively lead our country.

Are we being bombarded with the race and gender and religion issues because they are the most important issues of the primaries, or because the press wants them to be the most important part of the primaries? Frankly, I am sick of the continuing effort to keep race and color as the primary points of discussion with regards to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. The religion card is another matter. Obama is not using his race as a credential for his presidential qualifications and Clinton is not using her gender a a credential for her presidential qualifications. We have, however, Huckabee, who is using his Christianity as one of his qualifications to be our president. And so, religion is and needs to be a primary consideration as we look at the possibility of a religious zealot who as made the statement that we need to change our Constitution to allow for Christianity...more god... in our government, running for president. If the fact that one is a  Born Again Christian is the best indicator of one's ability to lead our country, we wouldn't have the cluster fuck of a mess we have now.

But the real issue is the protection of the Constitution. It seems that Huckabee, with regards to the Constitution,  is doing what many Christians do when they pick and choose what parts of the Bible they obey or honor. He is picking the parts of the Constitution that protect his freedom of religion and ignoring the parts of the Constitution that protect everyone else's freedom of religion...or freedom from religion.

This is a quote from a speech Huckabee made in Warren, Michigan this past Monday:

“I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution. But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God. And thats (sic) what we need to do is amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than trying to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view of how we treat each other and how we treat the family.”

This is a quote of a statement he made in December on "Meet the Press" :

“The key issue of real faith is that it never can be forced on someone. And never would I want to use the government institutions to impose mine or anybody else’s faith or to restrict.”

I don't think I can add anything here....well..yes I can. Huckabee has a slew of Americans who support the bastardization of the Constitution. They support our loss of freedom from religious interference by the government.

The most important issue of this election has become the protection of our Constitution...nothing else even comes close. Not the war, not the economy, not education, health care, global warming, illegal aliens, ecology, oil prices, jobs, taxes.....NOTHING else is even close to being as important as protecting our  freedoms. Without our freedoms, we cannot consider the other issues. We will have given up our voices. We will have abandoned our rights to make choices and we will have assigned those choices and decisions to a theocracy.

Another aspect of Huckabee that should be noted is how glib and affable he is. This man can tie knots of logic with his agile tongue.

That skill should make him appealing to many because we've just finished 7 years of the babble by Knucklehead Sniff.
